Yesterday Republican George Moraitis, state House Representative in Florida was the only Representative out of the 110 in the Florida House of Representatives that voted against a bill that prevents children who were raped and became pregnant to be forced into marriage by their rapist. The vote was 109-1. Moraitis, referring to the previous law allowing children to marry at any age if they are pregnant, was quoted as saying that the law was "very good, in my opinion, a very carefully crafted balance" and "there’s literally only a handful of cases that would fall under what I would say are potentially abusive" as his reasons for voting against it.
